Ancient Roman Figurines

Ancient Roman Figurines were mini replicas of ancient Roman statues. As such, many of the subjects that were made into figurines were the same subjects that were used as inspiration for the statues.

For example, there were many figurines of the gods. The Romans notoriously adapted the Greek gods after they conquered Greece. They changed the names of the gods, but the gods kept the same "functions" that they had in ancient Greece. To this end, many Greek statues were duplicated by Roman artist. So many Roman statues and figurines are but copies of what a Greek artist created.

Military figurines were the most popular type of figurine. Ancient Rome was a society that was military based, and politically charged. So there were many figurines based upon captains, and leaders of the brigades. You can see that they are posed to charge, or giving commands. There appears to have been chess sets with pieces formed after ancient Roman soldiers. There were also figurines of various emperors and other important political figures. Finally, there were figurines of important buildings, such as the ancient Roman colosseum.

These ancient Roman figurines can be found in any museum, especially one that is featuring an ancient Roman exhibit. These can be obtained online at websites that specialize in ancient Roman artifacts. These sites will more than likely sell figurines that are replicas. The original figurines that survived ancient times are guarded in museum collections. A person could of course plan a vacation to Rome, where they will see authentic figurines, and gain a first hand rich history behind the creation of the figurines, and what was going on during the time the figurine was created.
