Ancient Roman Keys
Ancient Roman keys were used for locking gates and other devices. Like many other things in roman times keys were generally made from iron or bronze.
In the times of the ancient Romans, keys were used for a number of different reasons. They handled cages for wild animals, locked the doors of prisoners and locked the shackles that were around the arms of those waiting to do battle. In some cases, they were even used to lock the caskets of the dead. With a number of different uses, it isn't too surprising to find that many of these ancient keys can still be found in museums and other areas for the general publish to look at these pieces of history.
In general, we find that these keys were made from bronze, steel and other metals that were available at the time. It should however be mentioned that the locks that these ancient roman keys came with had a variety of elements to them to ensure that particular people could unlock them. Along with this, for the time they were very advanced and weren't easily picked during their time. This allowed them to remain the security staple for many years.
There were two main versions of the ancient roman keys around. One was the general door key that had teeth at the end and the latch lifters. This latter choice would lift a latch and then allow it to be moved for easy entry into rooms that has items that needed to be safe guarded.
Ancient Roman keys have a remarkable history attached to them. With a number of different discoveries around, we are able to see that each has its own unique use and benefit. Many of these styles can also still be seen in the modernized locks that we use today, with the security upgraded from the original models of course.
