Ancient Roman Tweezers

ancient roman tweezersIt seems that even in ancient Roman times women were concerned about their beauty and used ancient Roman tweezers. They plucked their eyebrows, and removed other unwanted hair with the use of tweezers made from bronze. Ancient Romans also were also serious about medicine, and these tweezers were used as surgical instruments as well.

In Ankara, professor Nevzat Cevi and some colleagues uncovered a personal care set from an excavation site, dating back 1800 years. A pair of bronze tweezers as well as a manicure rasp were both found together at the site, as well as a number of other objects that suggested that women used these products as far back as the first century A.D. Other artifacts were also found but can't be mentioned because of their sexual nature.

As crazy as it sounds, you can even buy a piece of ancient Roman history as well. There is a website that is selling actual ancient artifacts, including a pair of ancient Roman tweezers. These bronze tweezers are from the first to fourth century and are 73 millimeters long, and still flex together, meaning they could still be used! This item is selling for $95.
