Ancient Roman Artifacts In Roman Times
Roman antiquities generally originated between 753 BC and 476 AD. The best way to shop for ancient roman artifacts is by getting into the history of Rome. Learning the history can help you appreciate the antiquities so much more. It can even be fun for kids.
The story of ancient Rome begins with the human settlement on present day Athens around 3000 BC. The people of this settlement eventually became the Greeks. Somewhere between 1000 and 800 BC there were grazers who settled the Seven Hills of Rome.
Around 753 BC the settlements on these hills joined to form Rome. Sometime shortly before 600 BC a people now know as the Etruscans moved onto the Roman site. The new settlers are thought to have come by sea from the Balkans areas.
The Etruscans already had a mix of knowledge and skills and their culture was foreign to the Roman area at the time. They exploited the iron ore deposits and became skilled metal workers. They lived in loose federation of cities ruled by Kings.
The people were literate and had adopted the Greek alphabet. They were city dwellers. One of their largest cities was around 25000 people. Without the Etruscan, the original settlers of Rome may have not become anything. At this time there were two different people living on the same site: the Etruscans and the original Roman settlers.
Rome became a city in the early sixth century BC and stayed bilingual for some time. The people eventually merged into one at which time became known as the Romans.
Many traditions came directly from the Etruscans and therefore also the Greek civilization. Some of these include... Greek Myth of Aeneas, Gladiator Games, Wearing Togasand Reading Auguries.
Between 600 and 500 BC the Romans acquired new traditions such as like Military Duties as part of Civil Rights and Restriction of government to Nobles. The last Etruscan king is believed to be fought off around 510 BC.
Over the next 50 - 60 years there was war with neighboring states and then finally the Roman Law Code was defined around 450 BC. Over the next few centuries there were many events that took place in Rome.
In 44 BC Julius Ceasar is assassinated and then Augustus accepted the imperial title in 27 BC. This then ended the Republic of Rome and he became the first ancient roman emperor. The Roman Empire lasted until 476 AD.
