Ancient Roman Provincial Coins
Many regions of the world already had their own currency in ancient Roman times. As the Roman empire expanded Roman Provincial coins were often a continuation of the local currency prior to being taken over by the Roman empire. These coins were issued in bronze and silver but never gold. Most of these coins were bronze because the silver coinage was controlled by Rome and not the local civic authorities.
